I don't know the history of my Free Spirits exhaust but it is loud. Trojen has told me there is no decibel killer for my exhaust can or removable baffles. I'm wondering if the fibreglass packing inside needs replacing? Never done this before, never needed too! Anyone know who does this for Free Spirits or any exhaust come to think about it?

Found this website in the USA but is it really that easy?

Is the free Spirits can re-packable, i.e is it riveted together?
IF it's welded I say it'll be a hell of a job to repack :!:

If it is riveted, DIY

Drill out rivets, take apart, re-pack and re-rivet
8-)

PH,

I told you in my last post on one of your threads that I wasn't part of the "ph bashing crew". I am still not.

I am, however, really surprised that you say you are an RD owner and are not familiar with repacking (at least 2 stroke) pipes. This is a pretty standard part of the whole two-stroke owning experience.

Starting any thread here with the statement that "my pipe is loud" is another one of those introductions that really isn't going to help you. I remember following Mojomick through the Hartwell tunnel once and I came out with both my ears bleading. I still had enough nouce not to tell him that his pipe was too loud.

Imagine - for a moment - that you had started with the statement that "the local Rozzers have pulled me and given me XX days to get this pipe down to legal noise levels or I get a ticket. How can I make this pipe legal in time?"

You would have got a couple of replies along the lines of "you broke the law - suck it up", but the vast majority would be thinking "there but for the grace of god go 1,000+ of us!. At that point, you' might have got some sensible replies.

Or maybe try another tack: "my pipe is so loud that I can't really hear what the motor is doing: apart from earplugs, do you have any ideas on how to quieten the pipe without losing performance, just so that I can hear what the motor is doing." Really nothing in this queston that you can be called out for and taken for as an idiot. A perfectly sensible question. It might elicit sensible replies.

Also, with all respect to Matt at Trojan (and I know him well), when he says that there is no decibel killer for your pipe, he probably means that Free Spirits don't make one. It does not mean that such a thing can't exist in this universe. Give me a couple of hours with your current pipe in my garage and I could make it sound like a sparrow's fart, but don't expect it to flow the gasses freely!

(You ride RDs for god's sake - surely you have some idea of how exhausts work! I used to make my own expansion chambers for the RD 430s and it is not difficult technology.)

I am really hanging myself out to dry here (I'll get it in the kneck for posting this reply) but we're all here to help out other owners who have hit a problem and need some guidance on how to resolve it - I have sought guidance here many, many times before.

Post an idiot question (eg does £5 of PJ1 give a better finish than £200 of Camcoat -bearing in mind that Camcoat have been in business for many years, so they must be doing something right) and you are going to continue to get short shrift here.

Before you post anything, just read through it agan and think "do I sound like an idiot". If the answer is "yes", don't post it. On some forums, you can ask silly / simple questions, but this is not the place for you to do so right now.

(This post was written in all good heart with the intention of being helpful and supportive.)

Dave
