There are a few hotels in Glencoe village. Try them or...
Take a tent. May is non-midge time, so you'll be fine.
I won't be able to make it now (even though I'm only 30mins away) as my girlfriend booked us on a holiday to Corsica starting that weekend. Should have told her......

Hi All
Just back from a week of glorious weather watching the S.S.D.T.in Fort William and hope we get the same for the Glencoe outing.Anyway ! For those planning on riding the A82 there are a quite a few roadworks at present with one lasting to the end of the month, a real bottleneck depending upon what time you hit it just before the summit of the Rannoch moor. They are replacing a bridge and the traffic lights yesterday were phased only to pass 4 cars at a time in each direction which is real shit for a major arterial road. Also watch out for the stretch of road between Tarbert and the Sloy power station along Loch Lommond(approx 3 miles) it is twisty, narrow and rarely dries out even in the height of summer. The road surface is well worn and like a patchwork quilt and best of all cars, lorries, coaches and most dangerous of all foreign tourist's in campervans (accounting for a fair proportion of all highland road fatalities) often can be found using your side of the road.

Custard, thanks for that information.

Saturday's (optional) ride-out will be west into Morar, Moidart, and Ardnamurchan. It will include a lunch stop - location TBC.

Corran Ferry - there was some talk of this service being closed for a period of 4 weeks while repairs are carried out to the slipway. I've searched for updated information about the closure but can't find any mention of the proposed dates. I presume it's still operating at the moment?

Hello CJ

Having followed the S.S.D.T. all last week passing the ferry almost daily, i can assure you that there are no signs or information displayed on or around the Corran ferry indicating intended closure. All be it's a short crossing it's a busy wee ferry and local opposition to closure would be intense. So i reckon we should be alright for the Saturday run.

The ferry isn't closing for the time being. Council were told to GTF until later in the year.
BTW, why do bikers like to travel in packs? I have been riding for 30 years, and the pleasure of horsing along by yourself is what it's all about for me. Watching all the sheep gathered together and riding nose to tail past my house just makes me wonder if they wouldn't be better taking a bus !

Thanks guys for clarifying the latest situation regarding the Corran Ferry, that will save us a big detour. It only costs £1.90 per motorcycle, per crossing.

And you'll be glad to know that we won't be hiring a minibus :D....

Matron and I are looking forward to meeting everyone - we are hoping to fly to Gran Canaria Wednesday, ash on the rails permitting, and a weekend away on the bikes when we get back. Perfect :D

Seriously, I live in Strontian and I see hundreds of bikers riding nose to tail around the twisty roads to Mallaig. I followed some of them the other day, and I swear most of them could barely get round the corners without running wide, or slowing down to crawling pace.

Be afraid of motorhomes on the single track roads around Arndamurchan, but be more afraid of Harry Hog and his half arsed riding. They really should be on a bus some of them. Also, watch out for the sheep and deer between Ardgour and Strontian. We've peeled a few bikers off the road already due to close encounters with sheep, and more than a few cars have been written off by deer.
