Ok received the parts from Jersey and I got stung for £20 import tax ,be warned ,,
We made a mistake with the order thinking the inlet valve would be the smaller one but its not it’s bigger than the exhaust ???? We thought it would be the other way round .

The pinion gear is connected to the oil pump drive gear with a small piece of metal. With only a little piece of this inserted into the pinion gear…this seem strange a small piece of metal stopping your engine going bang.

ps i have for sale one exhaust valve
but need an inlet valve. :headbang:

Oil pump and pinion gears should be prevented from rotating by friction and the key used for location, however I think I read somewhere that the torque applied to the nut is insufficient to hold by friction alone and that rotation is prevented by a combination of the two.

As for valves, inlet valves are always bigger, as with a compressible fluid, it is always easier to shift mass by blowing (exhausting) rather than sucking...

:yt: On a taper, you should only need the key to hold a pinion in place, like Pash sez, the key should only be used for location. For eg, when timing a magneto, a good smack with a socket is more than enough to lock the drive pinion onto the taper, but because there's no key, it can sometimes take several goes because they usualy move when you tap them in place  lOl
