Does not take a lot to turn one out, I fitted one to my x1 a few years back, it took less than an hr with a workmate bench and a couple of rounded files and some hand powered grafting, I managed a perfect clean and round inner hole, fitted like a glove and much improved the bike about town and A and B roads, though as expected a little revier (by about a 1000rpm) at 70ish, though now with less labouring at lower speeds my fuel consumption actually improved.
Well worth the time and effort imo.

That's good news

The 61 tooth 1200 Sportster ones are easier and cheaper to get hold of - so I'll give it a go

A machine shop would probably charge you about a fiver to open out the centre.

I just checked a couple of trye sites, Pash. As an example, 170/60-17 tyres, as fitted to GB's X1, are about 24.9-25.0" diameter - not hugely different to mine. GB has the UK gearing, but reduced primary gearing (not sure what ratio it is, and for f**ks sake don't remind :maz: ;) ), and the overall gearing of our bikes seems to be almost identical.

I seem to recall Uk tubers having 1.6 to 1 primary gearing as standard as opposed to the later XB12s 1.5 to 1. But 1.6 may be rounded up by a few decimals. Ie if the clutch gear was 57T the crank cog may be 36T making 1.583 to 1. Unless it was 56/35. Who knows? :geek:

If someone has a tuber clutch basket to hand, could they do a tooth count please? :eat:

I've got mine apart in the garage. Will have a look later and report back. P.S. mine's off an X1 2001 year.

Took time out tonight to align the wheels on the Grenade.

It all stemmed from taking it for an MOT (a year ago) to a place that has no issue with loud bikes, but the tester has a fetish for wheels being in line. He showed me that mine weren't... There was a difference of about 30mm between sides... I got round it (whilst he went for a cup of tea) by using the rear axle adjusters to make the wheels look aligned....

I recently bought two 1.8m spirit levels and some ratchet cramps.

Then it was just a case of getting a pair of 9/16 AF spanners on the front tie bar to undo the locknuts and bring the alignment in, and it didn't take much movement of the tie bar to do it...

Rumour has it that the alignment could be wanting a little attention straight from the factory...

A few years ago i had the front tiebar bolt come loose, the one by the oil filter on the M2 and you could wobble the back wheel, swinger and engine side to side  I thought the isolators had given up the ghost :?
