hi all,

yesterday i took the Buell 2for a long run after having not been on it much over the winter....(i mainly ride the Honda bikes as i work for them)

sequence of events went as follows:
- had a new rear tyre fitted locally...they did not bend the belt etc...and i look at it and it looked all ok to me
- we than set off - after about 70mls i noticed that the belt was "slipping" when i push hard in 1st of 2nd gear....so i stopped and noticed that had become very loose...
- as i have free spirit tensioner (with slight modification by tubbs after a broken spring) i could tighten the belt back up so it had a "decent" amount of tension...it certainly felt like it always was
- we than rode on the all felt fine and tension stayed fine too...
- than i swapped bike as my boss was riding my Honda and he wanted a go on the Buell...
- bad luck: as when he accelerated hard in 2nd it just went and snapped!

the bike has done over 18k and i am sure its the original belt from 2006....

so we had park the Uly and ride 2up on the CBF1000 home where we jumped in the car with my trailer and pick it back up...

so, now i will be looking to get a new belt!!!

will HD still sell them?

thx Lars

.....but could you afford to take the MoFuCo to Court? This why it'll never happen and what they rely on ;)

There is already stuff that is NLA that is under 10 years old...

I don't suppose there is any legal clause for the price to be acceptable either, so even if forced to get it made, price could be astronomical.

Besides, don't we already have a sticky on this?

Belts should still be available - but as to if there are any in European stores ...

... a good dealer should be able to locate one for you if any dealer actually has one in stock - mine did ! ( shame really as they have now gone to the wall  )

Or you could try :maz: , but you will have to rely on Beggar post as he doesn't do mail order !

Keep meaning to get a couple of spare belts - but at the moment money is tight.

Of course HD still supply them, whats all this panic about?, had no problems getting them so far at all.

When I last looked we have them in stock (Black Bear) and we can post them if required.

I would say, if that is the original belt, than it's done quite well ;)
In my experience so far, around 15000 miles is fairly good norm on XB's, as long as it's had no damage by foreign objects or stressed when removing the wheel etc.

Hope this helps.

I think you'll find the 20K service will not get there as quick as you expected .......have you tried pushing a Buell ........especially the nearly 2000 miles you have left ;) lOl

:yt: People seem to panic about everything ........global warming ....near earth objects and now Buell drive belts ....for fuck sake folks get out and enjoy life .......one thing is certain .....................whatever we do or worry about isn't going to make a fucks worth of difference to what happens in the world or for most people as to how or when we die.......... Nature is still in control the same as it always has been and always will be ............and people like Maz and BB will find the parts to keep us going ;-)

HD may still supply them but you cannot be sure on how long it will take to get one !
When the belt snapped on my 1125R there were none in the European supply warehouse, if it wasn't for the kind soul at TVHD who checked and found that another dealer had one in stock I could have waited weeks for them to be restocked ...

When mine snapped the other week, Oxford had a belt and front pulley cover in stock in a couple of days.
