To replace the Japanese manufactured R/H handlebar grip on XBR 2004 remove allen key bolts from right hand throttle cable housing and lift away housing.

Image

Lift the front cable from the housing, tape it and mark it front then lift the rear cable from the housing and tape that and mark it rear.

Image

Note the position of the cables in the grip. With the mounts in the grip pointing upward the rear cable follows the routing in the rear housing around the bar to the rear mount while the front cable goes round the front of the bar to the front mount.

Remove grip from bar and repair any damage to the bar. Mine is slightly crash damaged from a slip on a smooth and greasy roundabout at Tesco Bursledon so I'll file that bar smooth to avoid any sticking.

Place new grip over bar and slide it into position then route the rear cable through the housing and into the grip mount then the push rear clutch cable housing forward onto the bar. Take the front cable and push the end into the front grip mount then route it down the groove in the housing before sitting the cable in the housing on its rubber mount.

Make sure you don't damage the front cable as you push the front housing into place. It could be caught easily but the unit wouldn't close so you'll know. The housing will sit comfortably together when you get it right and in one position on the bar. Tighten the two allen bolts through the housing; short bolt at the top and long at the bottom and then test your throttle for sticking.
