Ok folks, listen up!

The ever-popular Diggertours will return to the Isle of Man in 2012, for the Manx Grand Prix. Today, I received the provisional race schedule from the organisers, and, from experience, we need to plan our accommodation NOW.

The plan is for a week’s stay on the island, crossing Saturday 25th August, and returning Saturday 1st September, 2012. Monday 27th is, for your information, a Bank Holiday in England.

Racing will take place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and it’s a safe bet that the Jurby Classic Festival will be on Sunday 26th.

I am looking at two hotels at the moment, but when I choose, I will need a firm idea of numbers. Last time we stayed at the Falcon’s Nest, Port Erin, which gave us some wonderful riding roads every time we returned from a day’s racing or touring. I’m also looking at the Glen Helen Inn, which, as it’s name suggests, is actually on the TT course. Last time it was full when we enquired, but this year they have “some rooms available”.

When we book, you will make your own booking direct with the hotel, although I will negotiate the best rate and give you a reference to quote. You will also make your own ferry bookings, the “organised” bit is purely my suggestion of a ride together, and viewing points on race days. You can come and go as you please, or join in for everything. For those who may not be aware, “Diggertours” is not a commercial enterprise.

A few folks have already let me know that they would be interested, but this is the place to let me know for sure. Please don’t delay, as hotels DO become fully booked very quickly once the race dates are announced. The Manx GP is becoming very popular indeed, with a very strong field of riders, and the added bonus of classic racing on each of the race days, often with top-flight pilots on board.

It is, of course, possible to shorten your stay, but that is for you to negotiate with the hotel we finally choose, as they have no difficulty filling the rooms for the full week.

Anyone who has joined me on previous trips to the NW200, Manx GP and Cookstown 100 will know how much fun these jaunts are, and they are welcome to post their thoughts below to encourage/discourage others. 8-)

John - thanks for the info. We have a lot already planned for next year so we may struggle to fit the 2012 Diggertour into our busy itinerary.

We'll keep it pencilled in as a 'thing to do if at all possible' :yup:....

Understood, Chris. :sun:

With only a week left of Summer Time, it's good to have next year planned.

I'm also busy booking our rides to Jersey at Easter, and Mugello in July. :yup:
