Had a great run last week on the CR thinking these are so much more reliable that people say......

System Voltage message comes up on IC, lose speedo the tacho and IC lights then it all comes back again? No misfire or change in engine characteristics. Toggled over to battery voltage and voltage maxed out at about 16.5v at some stage. All fine between time. This happened about 8 times in the last 20 miles of a 100 mile run but funnily enough not at all in last 5 miles.
Got home to find dipped beam headlamp blown and suspected Voltage regulator kackered or stator starting it's tricks.tho being not to electrickery minded don't really have a clue.
I looked for any fault codes on the IC only to find an historical one 1047 Frt Rear A.F system error which i believe relates to the O2 sensors so not that relevant?

Anyway bike just still in warranty so trailered of to Shaws for a looking at. they have done all tests etc and are diagnosing a new ECM :shock: Lets hope they are right and sort it. Seems odd to me but I have no means to test etc. (or know how)
Fingers crossed at least if thats not the prob I got it in there before warranty exp.

I'd go for the voltage regulator starting to fail which possibly blew the headlamp ....... keep a close eye on things or i think you'll be needing a new battery if it does it for prolonged periods ....ecm doesn't control the voltage regulator even when it switches off one leg of the stator ...stator failure is more likely to cause a loss of voltage not to much ;).
The other problems you noticed are also likely to have been caused by overvoltage.

Are you sure it hasn't got changed to Deg F by mistake ? ......................Mine was changed at the last visit to BB.................just reminded me I need to change it back lOl

Al, have you tried cleaning the IAC sensor ? It can get caked in road cr4p, may be worth a try. It's in the airbox inlet beneath the headstock - I've alway thought that it was a stupid place to put it as when the bike is standing still it can give high readings due to latent heat.

Tony, I hope that it's something simple, I would suspect the VR (RR ?), I've been thinking about replacing mine with something more efficient, and the stock mounting position is not ideal for keeping it cool.

My thoughts exactly, but as it's under warranty and they have had it on the diagnostics etc I'll let them sort it. If it's not right I'm sure it will show up again very quickly. Maybe a duff VR let a spike damage the ECM? tho it runs perfectly.

I believe the Badwebbers have tried a few options for keeping VR cooler. Not such a problem this side of the pond; unless you're 'Albert' riding around in his own tropical paradise. (do you think he is single handedly causing global warming?)

mine used to jump between 24c and -12c and not show anything inbetween.

New sensor sorted it.

yeah could be new sensor time
cleaned it tonight, without any sensor bike says 26 deg c
switch off bike, plug sensor in, switch bike on, instantly says 66 deg c

I've relocated mine and it reads much more accurately, I'll take a picture tomorrow

Deepsix, I doubt the ECM is at fault, if they say it is then go with it, but I doubt that's the cause, more Likely a consequence of the dreaded startor woe that plagues the later bikes.

Remember though that it's not there to measure ambient temp ....it's there to measure the temp IN the snorkle as that's the temp of the air that the engine is using for combustion..............If anything you'd be better off moving the intake to a cooler place.

I picked the bike up yesterday. They have changed the ECM after testing all other parts of the system. The problem occurred when they tested it before working on it. I rode it 90 miles home in traffic open road and flat out and all seems fine at the moment. I'm away again tomorrow so won't have time to test it further so here's hoping. :|
