I was recently caught far from home and did not see the low fuel light in direct sunlight, ran her dry. manged to scrounge a liter and then filled the tank. She ran great all the way home. The next ride out she threw a Check engine light at me that would come and go with no pattern I could connect to engine speed or throttle position. Once home I counted the flashes and the code is fuel pump.

Is this just a result of the run dry and will be OK or is it the beginning of a new pump needed? She runs strong with no hesitation or skipping, I was under the impression that pumps work or they do not work, is that so?

Lastly, can I clear the code without having to go through 50 start ups as I dont have a scanalyzer?

Thanks, I have ecmspy, but have never used it. Now must be the time to learn. I was always afraid of messing up something that was running fine.

Just use it to look at what's going on until you get used to it ....resetting fault codes can't harm anything and then if it throws the same code later you know there is an underlying problem still.

Thank you Boys, after 150 miles the light stays out now. I am getting a little scared of the OEM pump, does anybody have the cross reference number for the FORD fuel pump?

Don't be scared ...it's only tiny and can't hurt you ;)

These sorts of problems don,t occur over here because we don,t get direct sunlight. Its so miserable most of the time you can,t miss your warning lights ;)

Ferris, that may be the funniest thing I've heard in years. Real humor is firmly rooted in fact.
