Put it away with fresh oil, spray with rust inhibitor (ACF is the best ;) ) and keep on a battery tender.
Maybe turn the motor over every couple of weeks but don't start it.

1. warm up bike.
2. change oil and filter; run bike a bit to circulate new oil.
3. fill fuel tank and add fuel stabilizer - follow product instructions.
4. Run engine to get stabilizer into carb.
5. Inflate tyres to proper psi. Being up on a stand is good.
6. Remove the battery and charge it. Trickle charge once a month during winter.
7. put a breathable cover on it - a sheet works well. No plastic that would hold in condensation.

A gummed up carb from old petrol, and crud in old oil are not your bike's friends. Nor is condensation in the gas tank or elsewhere on your bike.

I can see why you'd not want your bike to look like this:

Get it insured and ride it on the dry, cold days.

That's my preferred route as well. Here, as long as you have plates on a vehicle, it has to be insured. You can't just stop the insurance, unless you turn your plates in. So I might as well ride the bike through the winter, as much as weather will permit. Highly recommended for the bike and for the spirit.

's been done! - Stay all year ;)

Ok - I'll be honest - where we are it can be rather inclement in winter - But as long as it's not wet & sub zero at the same time .........

The real PITA is the over 40ºC in summer - sauna on wheels.
