The Grenade got married to a beautiful S1W called Snowflake and they were blessed with a son...

Engine is coming together nicely, cam cover cut down, bronze oil pump gear fitted, top end swapped over to something more modern and squish set nicely...

Target was 0.75mm, so quite pleased with the result with a 0.25mm base gasket and 0.75mm head gasket...

Parents very proud...

Son of Grenade's engine is still waiting to be bolted together, purely through not having time on my side (and a lawnmower on the bike lift), however interesting snippet here regarding reuse of Buell parts. Nothing new here, but have never seen a photo of these bits together:

So from left to right, we have:
32402-83 - Trigger rotor for S2, S1, M2 and early S3s
32422-98 - Trigger rotor for X1 and late S3s
32473-02 - Trigger rotor for 03 to 07 XBs

Something to note is the difference in keyway position between the 32422-98 and 32473-02. I always believed this to be 90 degrees but in actual fact it is more... This is due to the position of the keyway on the crank driven cam, which changed on the XB and is the reason why you can't just bolt an early trigger rotor on an XB to run with a carb, see this post... And before you ask, the Cam Position Sensor does not have enough movement...

But, if you wanted to run with XB cams in an X1 (same as Screaming Eagle "E" grind with a whopping 0.551" of lift - but reading herethey don't perform as well as the 0.536"s which have a longer duration - also the timing marks are in the wrong place cos the front and rear inlet cams are swapped), you would need to use an XB trigger rotor.

If you wanted to run the sweet performing SE 0.497 (standard in S1, S3, M2, X1) on an XB, you would need the X1/S3 timing rotor (which is no longer available, although the big blue bird that lives on the shore of the Tame carries stock) and also work out the timing - although word has it that cam sets bought now have Vs for XB timing and Os for tuber timing.

I was a bit bored... When the mower is off the bike lift, I'll take some pictures of the frame going on to the engine and point out some special bits...

I don't have enough time to do my own stuff, besides you would be better of getting someone to build your engine who knows what they are doing, like Maz or Tubbs...
