Hi guys ,
Happy new year ,
Got my Uly out the other day , unhooked her from the trickle charger and fired her up ,
Should she spin over before starting ?
Cos when I press the starter the motor stirs , hits compression , pauses then fires up ,
to be honest she has always done it , just wondered if that was normal ?
All my other bikes turn over quite quickly , the Uly always gives me an 'oh shit ' moment of doubt .
Having said that , she never fails to thump into life .

Cheers ,

Mike.

Sounds perfectly normal to me, Mike. :yup:

One question though - why haven't you been riding over Christmas ?

It's been one long summer round here :sun:

Thanks Digger , :worthy:
to be honest , the only reason I haven't been out for a blast before now is that I am a complete fanny and hate getting cold and wet , :coat: also they are a bit salt happy round here and I would hate for my pride and joy to be eaten by that nasty shite .

Thanks again for the info my friend , :yup:

Mike.

Another reminder to folks though .................................if you're going to start your Buell up especially XB's make sure you run it long enough to get it fully up to temperature , If you don't you'll be joining the long list of folks posting either my Buell won't start or my Buell only runs on one cylinder and aren't the plugs a bastard to get out of an XB ;) .
Also partially warming an engine does it far more harm than leaving it stood ;)

XB's have a really shit earth path to the motor ie. battery earth is to the seat subframe which then passes through a convoluted series of bolted up items before it gets to the engine

Was thinking about posting re: that pecularity. Thanks for the clarification. My Ulysses has now been formally relegated to the the sub's bench because of a new record signing. A Suzuki GSX 1300 B-King!!

My uly's fine - never noticed any hesitation in the motor spinning up; but, a :yt: to the comment re warming the thing up properly once started - i failed to do it when offloading the bike from the removal van and the front plug fouled on me.

i never had a plug foul on anything else in the last 35 yrs: why are the old hardly lumps so prone to it ?

Hi Guys, my Uly was lazy starting since I bought it, ie. stalling at top dead center before firing up more or less first time. Like Maz , I thought it was a bad earth and I had a separate earth lead made and I bypassed the subframe directly to the engine. It made no difference, but at least I know I have compression. Now when starting I bring the engine to compression and release the starter, it starts nice and smoothly without hesitation next prod of the starter.
By the way I put a brand new battery on when I bought it so it wasn't the battery, cheers.
