Does anyone here have or know of my old X1?

Hi guys. I was a member of this excellent forum many years ago. I cant remember what name I was on here as but my real name is Stan. (I actually edited a few of the American Thunders for you)

I had a yellow X1 with nuclear blue frame from 2000 to 2002.

I kept it pretty much standard, it even retained its (ugly?) original tank side pods. It had the aluminium Vance and Hines exhaust system (which I ran with a K&N filter but I sold it on with the original unused Harley paper filter). I also had gold coloured Renthal superlow bars on it.

I sold the bike (actually part exchanged it for a GSX1400 which I still have) at a dealers in Portsmouth Hampshire, Motorcycle City, part of the Carnell Group who went out of business many years ago. I have no idea where they sold it on to, either some Harley dealer? (I don’t think it was the then Dockgate 20 in Southampton, or privately, do you have it? Or to auction somewhere?)

It’s registration is X443 HGM (I wont post its chassis or engine numbers, which I have, cos this is an open forum). I just checked the .gov system and its still taxed on the road and not SORNed or exported. Someone somewhere is riding X443 HGM in the UK

In the picture the bike has the stainless steel S1 muffler which I sold only a few months back on ebay.

I would dearly love to know where my old bike is now and what it looks like. Thus I just rejoined UKBEG just to find out.

My time with my X1.
It was both one of the most wonderful and most awful bikes I have ever owned (typical Buell)
How I describe it to people is you can hit a roundabout at any speed and leave a roundabout at any speed, and that to me it pure biking. It also looked stunning just parked up (yup even with those side pods).
I always kept it showroom immaculate though I rode it, like all my bikes, in all weathers.
Riding 70 miles each day and more at weekends the poor thing couldn’t and wouldn’t stay together. I blew 2nd gear, front head gasket, had suspension problems, blew bulbs other minor niggles. The final straw was when the lights went out in the forest and nearly killed (I stopped a few feet away from a big ditch and some trees) me as the headstock chopped the loom up which Buell knew about (wiring routing fault) and didn’t recall.
I was off the road almost every month in the two years I owned her. (permanent Harley loans from DG20 kept me on the road and my neighbours thinking I was a drug dealer or something). The wiring fault nearly killing me made me go and chop her in for the GSX1400 as even though Harley extended my warranty (as Id had two years of grief) I’d totally had enough. By contrast, as suspected, the GSX1400 turned out to be one of the most reliable bikes I’ve even had.
But …. That bloody X1 still remains inside me. Having typed a paragraph of annoyance it still remains one of the best (yes I just said that) bikes I have ever owned.
My X1 was more than a machine, it had soul, I loved it, it still gives me a grin even just thinking of riding it all those years ago.

Rose tinted glasses – maybe! But I still gotta know ….. do you have my old X1?

Thanks.

Yours, Stan

(great to see ukbeg still very much alive and kicking)

If your full name is Stan Evans, you were known as, errr, Stan lOl . And I think you must have done American Thunder, volume 3, and appear in it as well :P

It's in the archives:-

And I guess, despite the uncanny likeness to Brains from Thunderbirds, this must be the editor Mr Shakeshaft, I wonder what he's now called ;)

Hello again Stan, you ugly old sod! Welcome home!
You forgot to mention your Gay-Grips.... with the yellow inserts... :rotfl:
Good to hear you're still alive, get yourself a proper bike and come and play with the Buell Boys again, or are you still an ardent IAMer?

PS Oh, have you got any more of those micro Swiss penknives? ...branded Cannon IIRC? ...you know, the ones that you gave to each of your bitches? I lost mine and could really use a replacement. Thanks!
Love and kisses,
Rik

I had a pair with blue insets. :sad1: Looked good against all the nuclear blue. 8-) Traction grips felt better tho.

Hi Stan, Steve S here. I never knew your X1 but I knew the Suzuki, you gave me a lift to/from London when I was staying in Cobham with work one time. We went to a meet in the White Horse pub (was it called the White Horse :?: ) I recall Happy Jack met us in Cobham too and rode into town with us.
