Sorry to say, the bikes got to go. I'm having Vibration White Finger instead!

Ok, It's a Buell XB1200Ss Lightning on a 58 plate, so not even a year old.

Translucent Valencia Orange.

It's one of the 07 bikes left over at Manchester Harley-Davidson in 2008 that they were selling off cheap. I waited till I could get it on a 58 plate.

2635 miles

one owner (me) from new.

As new, unmarked, even the exhaust hasn't started to rust!

Only getting rid of it because of this vibration white finger. I get it on all bikes, but the Buell does it with a vengeance. A half decent ride has the old pinkies (erm, whities) feeling like tuning forks for the next few days. Doctor said I could get permanent damage, but not to worry as I could get a job tuning musical instruments!

So she has to go. Gutted.

Price? £4,500 or there abouts please,

Cheers

Boz
How do you put picture on this thing? Oh, that's how!

Do you know, I've only just noticed that about the lights. Good job you spottted that.

And you know what else, they're all leaning the same way AND in line with the bike!

SPOOKEY!

There must be some supernatural forces at play... or I've got one leg shorter than the other.

They said that weed was a pretty bogonia at the shop. Wait till I see them!!

sorry to hear about the white finger.

I would see a specialist, if I were you, because - as you are not doubt aware - that is something you get from prolonged use of machinery not bikes - not even Buells - get some acupuncture or summat

Sorry, I sometimes feel that I'm picking up on everything you post, shudders, but I can't agree with that.

Although Bozi doesn't describe symptoms which are strictly Vibrating White Finger (Raynaud's Phenomenom), he does appear to have Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome which includes symptoms such as VWF and the two terms are often interchanged.

Anyway, back to the point. I don't see how you can suggest you'd get it from "machinery not bikes". Last time I checked, my bike was mechanical. I got HAVS and nerve damage from 8 days riding round the Alps and back without gloves. It took about 8 months to get feeling back and lose the tingling and it recurs if I spend much time in the saddle. Riding the Buell up and back to East Kirkby 2 weeks ago was enough to trigger it again.

Norm! You pretty much hit the nail on the head there, I couldn't have put it better myself. Nice to hear from someone who has some idea what it's like.

I was going to tell Shudders, apart from a short stint with a Kango hammer a couple of weeks ago I've never used machinery like that; and yes i've been to see the docs about it but all they say is keep your hands warm... oh, and stop riding bikes. God bless the NHS.

Oh, and it can be hereditary, my mum, gawd rest 'er, was always going on about her fingers going numb, (please, no jokes about vibrating tools!) but I never gave it much thought.

I first got it bad, like Norm, on a trip across europe on an Africa Twin. It didn't quite take 8 months to recover, but I'm well aware of the permanent nerve damage it can do. It's gotten noticeably worse since I started riding the Buell, so I think it's better if it went, if only because I can't afford to keep replacing all the cups and crockery I keep dropping!

So, anyway, there's a real danger thatanyone reading this thread might think they've stumbled across some medical site. Does anyone want to buy a Buell? I'll even throw in the weeds in the drain and a couple of bent over lights from the tubbs

Sorry to hear of your medical problem. I'd be sick as a pig if I had to sell mine! Hope you get a good price for it :yup:

Many thanks for the kind condolences.

I'm not sure of the exact meaning of 'sweet PH' skipy, but I'm quite sure it's along the lines of 'not very much at all'

Actually someones missed a trick here. I've been waiting for someone to post that I must ride like a right nancy boy, because if you keep them over 70mph everywhere Buells don't vibrate at all!!!

I had a test ride on the new KTM 990SMT yesterday. I've heard so many good things about these bikes, I can't understand why I didn't go for a test ride sooner. Anyway, it's pretty good, handles well and accelerates off the throttle in the mid range like a Buell can only dream of. But you know, when they make a big V twin quick reving and powerful, they lose some of the character on the way. Didn't make my fingers go numb though.

Still, it was nice to get back on the Buell after the Katoom. There's something soothing about that lazy motor and the poetic tappety rustle from the push rod lifters that you just don't get with whining hyvo chain driven overhead cams.

Eee, sob.

some better padded gloves would help .. not the best but its better than this turning permenant .. maybe some heated grips or if you can longer anti vibe bar ends?

id think about this for what ever bike you end up riding, as if this contiues it doesnt stop at you fingers ... it will slowly move through your hands and up your arms and its non reversable!!

the reason it can be hereditary is due to poor circulation .. thin caplierys or something .. anyway i would still advise to address this which ever bike you ride as its a nasty problem.

jon :)

Hi, I am very interested in your bike.

I have posted a private message giving my contact details via a friends' identity as I am new to this forum and was unable to log in myself yesterday.

Please ring me soon.

Angie

Wise and sobering words Jon.

Must admit, it was when I learned about the damage being none reversible AND making its way up your wrists and arm, that I thought maybe it's time for the Buell to go.

Mind you, those that know me might say that the numbness first started in my head and I only just noticed it now it's worked its way down to my fingers!

Anyway, they don't do gel, or otherwise padded gloves, which is a surprise, because they do for bicycles. Now there's a thought! I set about trying to put some spongy grips on the bars, but I don't know what they use to glue the original grips to the bars, but there's no way they're coming off without destroying them and I concluded it probably won't make any difference anyway.

And besides, she's gone, well going. I've hocked her in for a Speed Triple. And wouldn't you know it, as soon as the deal was done Angie contacts me wanting the Buell. Just my luck. Well, I rang her up and let her know the other night.

All I have to do now is work out how to add 'SOLD' to the title bar of this add, or m aybe even delete it altogether!

Before i go, is no one going on this ride to Wales that MCN are organising? Don't see it posted anywhere?

Boz
